On Friday February 26 at 2.30 we had the usual quota of around thirty present in the Botany Lecture theatre for a talk on “Provosts of Trinity College” by Peter Boyle based on his recent book. The talk restricted itself to three of the Provosts of the 18th century Baldwin, Andrews and Hely-Hutchinson and gave a lively and informative account of three of Trinity’s Provosts who were it has to be said not exactly unworldly in both their interests and their self-interests. Peter Boyle’s talk was hugely entertaining and successfully brought to life the Trinity of the eighteenth century. It was accompanied by a slide show illustrating the troika of provosts involved. The event was followed by a short question and answer session.
