On behalf of the Trinity Women Graduates Association, I would like to invite you to a reception and talk by the award-winning poet and novelist James Harpur to be held in the Senior Common Room on Thursday 8 May 2025 at 6 p.m. James will be talking about the transformative effect of Trinity upon his sister, Merrily Harpur, who was an undergraduate here during the 1960s; he will also be reflecting upon his own time as an undergraduate at Trinity College, Cambridge, an experience captured in verse in his latest collection, The Magic Theatre. TWG Members’ Welcome Reception, May 8th at 6-7.30PM We warmly invite you to the TWG Members’ Welcome Reception, an evening with award-winning poet James Harpur.

In his illustrated talk, James reflects on the impact of higher education through the lens of his sister Merrily Harpur’s time at Trinity in the late 1960s. A gifted painter, cartoonist, illustrator, poet, and journalist, Merrily’s years at Trinity were a time of personal and creative transformation. Read more about Merrily Harpur. James will also read from his memoir, The Magic Theatre, a moving reflection on his own student years, and a journey of self-discovery, poetry, and growth.
