On the morning of Tuesday 13 October twenty of our members had a wonderful Tour of Government Buildings followed by a delicious lunch in the Members’ Room which was a great success. The tour was very kindly hosted by Ivana Bacik, Independent Senator of Dublin University and Reid Professor of Criminal Law, Criminology and Penology in Trinity. As everyone probably knows, the Oireachtas consists of two houses – Dáil Éireann (the House of Representatives) and Seanad Éireann (the Senate) and our tour guide, Padraig McGovern, was a font of knowledge about the history and workings of these historic buildings.
Ann Lane, Ivana’s assistant, also gave of her time to ensure that our tour went without a hitch and some of the group were very happy that they managed to purchase some of their Christmas gifts on their way out!
Our thanks go to Ivana, Ann and Padraig for making this tour such a memorable one and we hope to be able to organise a similar event sometime in the New Year.
