The Royal College of Physicians in Ireland (RCPI) is based at 6 Kildare Street in Dublin, a stone’s throw from Trinity College Dublin (see www.rcpi.ie). The RCPI is a postgraduate medical training college dedicated to ensuring that doctors have the skills to provide patients with the best possible care. Founded in 1654, the college supports doctors to enhance their skills, competencies and professionalism throughout their working lives.
The RCPI, through its Faculties and Institutes, offers medical training programmes, examinations, diplomas and educational courses to equip doctors with the skills and knowledge they need to care for patients and run safe and efficient healthcare systems. It also offers a range of educational diplomas and courses for learners in the wider healthcare sector.
The history of the RCPI, from the time of its foundation, has been intertwined with the history of medical education at TCD.
The Heritage Centre at the RCPI works to preserve, protect and promote RCPI’s historic collections relating to the history of medicine and medical education in Ireland. It has full accreditation under the Museum Standards Programme for Ireland.
A tour of the beautiful and historic building in Kildare Street, including some of the current exhibitions therein, has been arranged by the TRA committee.
