Dear TRA members
You are invited to a guided tour of the Royal Irish Academy at 11.00 am on Thursday 6 Feb. 2025
Tour description
Blink and you’ll miss it! Tucked in between St Anne’s Church and the Mansion House on Dawson St., is the Royal Irish Academy – an independent, all-island learned society dealing with the humanities, sciences, and social sciences. Learn about the architecture and early beginnings of this late-eighteenth century Georgian townhouse and the families that lived there. From there we will trace the history and people of the Academy from its inception in 1785. To finish we will delve into the collections of the Royal Irish Academy Library – home of the sixth century Irish manuscript The Cathach of St Colmcille.
The tour will be led by Ailbhe Rogers, who works as a Senior Executive Assistant in the Royal Irish Academy Library.
Proposed schedule
11:00-11:30: Tea and coffee in the Members’ Room.
11:30-12:30: Guided tour of the ground floor rooms of Academy House.
