The Association has booked a guided tour of the GPO ‘Witness History’ Exhibition for 12 noon on Wednesday 11th January 2017.
The Witness History is a highly immersive and engaging exhibition that puts you right inside the GPO during Easter Week in 1916. History will come to life as you experience events from both sides of the conflict through electronic touch screens, video, audio visual booths, sound and authentic artefacts. You’ll be immersed in the action as you compose newspaper reports, examine the original copy of the Proclamation and send Morse code to declare the Irish Republic by radio. After the exhibition, you can relax and reflect in the café and retail store overlooking the courtyard.
First opened in 1819, the GPO is one of the world’s oldest working Post Offices, but the tour feels exceptionally new. Despite it being a working post office with people using it every day, it feels there is so much to it you have not seen before.
The tour will last about an hour.
Tickets: The price per person is €11.25 and each member may bring one guest.
Tea/Coffee beforehand: We will meet beforehand from 11am in the nearby Wynn’s Hotel in lower Abbey Street.
Booking: You can book a ticket online on the website below. If you are unable to book online, you must ensure that tickets are available in the first instance by texting Kay at 087 633 5659, giving your full name and the name of the event, (GPO Exhibition) to reserve ticket/s. When you have received confirmation you should send your completed booking form along with your payment to The Trinity Retirement Association, c/o Pensions Office, House 4, Trinity College, Dublin 2. Cheques/Bank drafts/Postal Orders should be made payable to the Trinity Retirement Association. Please do not send cash.
Closing Date: The closing date and time for bookings is Wednesday January 4th 2017 at noon. The Association is required to confirm final numbers a week beforehand and it will be invoiced for the numbers booked.
