Free Mason’s Grand Hall Visit

November 27 @ 12:00 - 13:30

Visit to Free Mason’s Grand Hall, Molesworth Street, Dublin

Wed 27th Nov 2024, 12.00 noon

The Masonic Fraternity dates its existence back to the 16th Century. By the early 18th Century, Masonic Lodges were established in England, Ireland and Scotland and “Grand Lodges” were formed to govern the fraternity. The organisation’s aim is empower members to be the best they can be, both for themselves and for society. It does this by providing a structure to enable positive contributions to local communities through fundraising, events, and volunteering.

The Grand Lodge of Ireland, was formed by 1725. It is the second most senior Grand Lodge in the world. The Freemasons’ Hall on Dublin’s Molesworth Street is a fine building with many unusual features arising from the ritual and approach of the fraternity. It was opened in 1869 and still serves as the headquarters of Irish Freemasonry. It governs the Masonic Fraternity within the Island of Ireland and in a number of overseas Provinces.  Irish Freemasonry has approximately 19,000 members.

The tour will be led by the Head Tyler, a senior member of the lodge.

The Grand Lodge has a dining facility which the public are welcome to use. It is open for lunch daily and prices are reasonable.

TRA members on the tour are welcome have lunch there, but are asked to indicate their intention to do so. This is to avoid problems for the catering staff on the day
