Dalkey/ Killiney Hill Walk – Tuesday 26th June 2018

June 26, 2018 @ 10:30 - 13:00

Dalkey/ Killiney Hill Walk  –  Tuesday 26th June 2018

Dear All

You are invited to join other members of the Association and their guests for a walk in the Killiney/ Dalkey area on Tuesday 26th June at 11am.

The walk will start from Fitzpatricks/Killiney Castle Hotel at 11am, and as usual, some of us will meet there from about 10.30am for tea/coffee before the walk.

The walk will be led by one of our members and we will walk through Killiney Common,  Killiney Hill Park, then onto Dalkey Hill and back to Fitzpatricks/Killiney Castle Hotel.  It is about 5km and will take about an hour and a half.   There are some uphill parts of the walk which will slow us down a little.   The walk is on pavement initially but is mostly on tracks which can be muddy if it has been raining.  From Killiney Hill and Dalkey Hill there are wonderful views along the coast.

Meeting place see attached pdf file from Google maps

We will meet from 10.30am at Fitzpatricks/Killiney Castle Hotel and the walk will depart from outside the hotel at 11.am.

Getting there – public transport

If you are using public transport, you can take the Dart to Dalkey and its about a twenty minute walk from the station to the hotel.  When you come out of the station cross the stone bridge and take an immediate right turn along Cunningham Road.  You will come to a T-junction and you take a right turn (still Cunningham Road) and at the next T-junction, take a left turn along Dalkey Avenue and follow the road up the hill to Fitzpatrick’s Hotel.

A dart leaves Dublin Connolly at 9.44am and is due into Dalkey at 10.16am and another leaves Connolly at 9.57am getting into Dalkey at 10.28am.  If you need a lift from the station to the hotel, we could arrange a pick-up for 10.30am.  Please text Vivien at 085 7689 517 (preferably the day before the walk) to request pick-up from the station at 10.30am.

Getting there by car   – see attached pdf file from Google maps

If you are travelling by car, take the M50 southbound and exit at junction 16 for Cherrywood/Loughlinstown on the R118.  Stay on the R118 for 3.5km and take the third exit at the Graduate Roundabout onto Ballinclea Road. After about 1km turn right onto Killiney Road and after a further 0.5km you come to a T-junction and you should be able to see the hotel in front of you.

Parking is available in the hotel grounds.  While there is a sign saying that cars will be clamped if you are not a patron of the hotel, we have checked with hotel reception and have been informed that there will be not problem about leaving the cars there while we go walking for a couple of hours.  If you are not happy with this advice, you can check with hotel reception yourself when you arrive or you may be lucky enough to get a public parking space just outside the uphill exit gate of the hotel (no charge there either).

Please note that Killiney Hill Car Park is closed at present
