Dear Members,
Sara McMurry will present a talk to the Trinity Retirement Association via Zoom on Thursday 11th March 2021 at 11 am entitled ‘A glimpse of life in rural India’.
Sara McMurry was for a number of years a lecturer in Applied Mathematics at Trinity. Eighteen months after retiring she visited India for the first time, and was inspired to return as a volunteer, teaching underprivileged children. She had four placements there between 2010 and 2014. She had written one book on Quantum Mechanics and another, Mathematics as a Language, during her career in Trinity, and decided to attempt a book on her experiences in India, though this entailed a complete change of writing style! “Re-Tyred: Discovering India” was published in March 2019.
This presentation is based on her experiences as a volunteer teaching in Government primary schools in villages in northern India.
