Research: Investigating how our ability to discrimination patterns changes with age

Does age affect our ability to perceive shapes using touch, vision or both senses? To answer this question, researchers at the Trinity College Institute of Neuroscience are investigating shape discrimination, which is important for everyday tasks (e.g., recognising objects), in healthy adults aged 60 – 80 years. You will explore LEGO shapes using your dominant hand and using a computer. You will also complete quick, non-invasive measures of your eyesight, finger sensitivity and memory.

There are two sessions, each about 2 hours in duration, both of which take place in our testing suite in Trinity College Dublin. These sessions are at least 3 days apart but sessions are scheduled around your availability. Breaks are offered and light refreshments (tea, coffee, biscuits) are available. Public transport costs to and from Trinity College Dublin can be reimbursed. Once completed, you will receive a €40 TANGO voucher.
