Drawing from the latest available data on the 2024 U.S. election, it will argue that Democrats lost more than that Donald Trump won. It will build on this analysis to draw lessons for the Democrats and suggest what we might expect from a second term in office for Trump.

Daniel Geary is the Mark Pigott Professor in U.S. History at Trinity College Dublin. He is a regular commentator on American politics for the Irish Times and is the author most recently of Global White Nationalism: From Apartheid to Trump (co-edited with Camilla Schofield and Jennifer Sutton).
