Research Opportunities

Self-directed Ageism Study-Call for participants

Age Action is supporting a study conducted by Trinity College Dublin on the ageism we direct against ourselves, with some members of the Voice forum sitting on the Advisory Panel for this research. When we believe negative stereotypes about ageing, to the extent that we stop ourselves doing and being what we want, that’s self-directed ageism.

Researchers would like to speak to older people to better understand their experience of self-directed ageism.

If you might be interested, you can contact Dr Catherine Elliott O’Dare at 01-896 2950 or researchage@tcd.ie who can provide more details about the study, and answer any questions you have.

No Data about Us Without Us: Co-designing a more inclusive National Inpatient Experience-Call for participants

Age Action is working with the National University of Ireland in Galway to learn more about the experience of being a patient in a public hospital in Ireland, to provide services that are more inclusive of diversity. The research team are particularly interested in hearing from people whose experiences can be overlooked, such as people with disabilities, from minority ethnic groups and/or religions, people of minority sexual orientations, or those who have literacy challenges, people on lower incomes, people living in more rural areas and the different experiences of men and women.

There are lots of different ways of participating in the study: interviews or focus groups, online or in person – if you’re interested in participating, you can tell the research team what suits you best. You will receive a €20 One4All voucher to reimburse you for your time participating in the study.

Age Friendly Artificial Intelligence (AI)

Age Action are supporting TU Dublin and the ADAPT Centre on the ‘Age-Friendly AI’ initiative. This project explores how Artificial Intelligence (AI) is impacting older adults. You can find more on the project here. https://agefriendlyai.ie/partners/

The research team is holding a workshop to discuss the impact of AI as we age: “Technology & Growing Older: Let’s Talk About Artificial Intelligence” will take place in Galway in June. You don’t need any prior experience with AI to participate. Your ideas and perspectives are valuable, regardless of your technological background. This is an opportunity to take part in a meaningful conversation about the role of AI in our lives and how it can be shaped to support older adults.

All are welcome. Event Details:

  • Time: 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM (Tea/Coffee from 10:30 AM, lunch after at 1:00 PM)
