Visit to Irish Architectural Archive – 16th November 2016

Eddie McParland, Pro-Chancellor, Fellow Emeritus and lecturer in the Department of History of Art, and Colum O’Riordan, CEO of the Archive welcomed twenty-two members of the Association to the Archive which was established by Eddie and Nicholas Robinson in 1976 to collect and preserve material of every kind relating to the architecture of the entire island of Ireland and make it available to the public.

The Archive comprises over 3,500 individual acquisitions, ranging from single items – a book, pamphlet, drawing or photograph – to the thousands of drawings, models and files created by large architectural practices.  Some photographs may be viewed in the Gallery.

Both Eddie and Colum were a font of knowledge and gave us a detailed tour of all the hidden treasures that are held in Nos. 44/45 Merrion Square, including many models and drawings of some of the buildings of the College, which was very much appreciated by all.

Our thanks go to both Eddie and Colum for making this tour such an interesting and fascinating visit.
