Tolka River Walk – Tuesday April 9th 2019

April 9, 2019 @ 10:30 - 13:00

Tolka River walk.

Dear Member,

One of our members, Claire Laudet, will lead a walk along the Tolka River from Drumcondra to Ashtown on Tuesday 9th April.

We will depart from the gate of Holy Cross College on Clonliffe Road (opposite Jones Road, near Croke Park) at 10:30 and walk upstream, mostly along the banks of the Tolka up to Ashtown. The meeting point is a 5-minute walk from Drumcondra train station. There are also numerous bus options: 1, 11, 13, 16, 33, 41. The 40 bus stops nearby on Whitworth road.  Parking around Clonliffe road is pay and display and, more importantly, limited to 2 hours (because of proximity to Croke Park), so attendees are advised to use public transport if possible.

There is a possible stop for a coffee in a small coffee shop, off the Ballybogan Road. The walk is just under 10Km, so it should take about 2 and a half hours, including the coffee stop. It is mostly flat, almost all on surfaced paths across parks but there will be around 15/20 minutes of road walk. There are a couple of places along the route that could be used to cut the walk short, with bus access. From the proposed coffee stop, a 5-minute walk would take you to the Broombridge Luas terminus. We will finish up at Ashtown station on the Maynooth train line, with trains back to Connolly (some trains go direct to Pearse Street or Grand Canal dock). The first stop after Ashtown is Broombridge, with a Luas cross city connection. There are lunch options at Ashtown. There is the option of walking back (after lunch?) to Phibsborough and Drumcondra along the Royal Canal (about an hour) for those who are interested. If you wish to join the walk, you may book a place using the ticket system below.

We hope to see you then
